MICHAEL MAZAHERI, DDS
The restoration of a damaged tooth by applying a tooth-colored resin is known as bonding. The procedure gets its term from the materials hat are bonded to the tooth by use of dental adhesives. Bonding can be used for dental cosmetics to cover discolored teeth, restore damaged tooth structure from decay or fracture or it is used to close spaces between the teeth also known as a diastima. Bonding can also be use to lengthen teeth or to change the shape or color of teeth. At our office we only use bonding restorations to restore damaged teeth and we do not utilize amalgam or silver restorations for our restorative dentistry.
Tooth bonding can be an alternative to crowns and porcelain veneers to treat some of the more common dental issues. Bonding can be used to:
Teeth Bonding Process
Most of the time bonding takes little to no preparation, and the use of dental anesthetic is often not necessary unless the bonding is to fill a deep cavity. There are different shades of bonding available which we can match to your existing dentition for a natural looking result. The area being bonded is first treated and conditioned with special gel and and then resin is bonded, shaped and cured hard to restore the effected area. The beauty of bonded restorations is that they are quick, done in one visit and can be used immediately following the procedure.
A consultation with Dr. M will determine what dental problems can be solved with bonding. Dr. Michael Mazaheri will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and evaluate your teeth and gums. During your consultation, we will discuss if you are a candidate for the cosmetic problems that bonding can resolve, or we may recommend alternative options to achieve optimal results based on your needs and budget..
Care and Maintenance
In order to maintain a healthy smile it is always recommended to brush and floss regularly. Bonded teeth require the same care as your natural teeth. Brush at least twice per day and floss once a day. Regular dental checkups at our gilbert dentist office is a good way to insure your bonded restorations are kept in superb condition. Avoid chewing on pencils, crushing ice, or biting into hard objects as these habits can fracture not only your bonding, but also can damage your natural teeth.
Compared to other cosmetic dental treatments such as porcelain veneers bonding are much more affordable. The cost of the treatment vary depending on your specific situation and size of the bonding. On average a dental bonding procedure can cost between $100 to $350 per tooth and it is typically covered by your dental insurance provider if not cosmetic.
